Design Technology has developed from the traditional subjects of Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Drawing, Needlework and Home Economics and is now a highly regarded area of the academy's curriculum.
In KS3, students are presented with a variety of challenging problems; they are encouraged to produce drawings and models to aid decision making and, in turn, manufacture using appropriate materials. To create quality outcomes the pupils are taught a range of “traditional” skills as well as applying new technologies.
In KS4 students consolidate previous design and making skills and have the opportunity to specialise in certain areas leading to GCSE / L2 equivalent examination or an Award in Creative Design and Production, or GCSE Food Technology
