Pool Academy

Design and Technology

Design Technology has developed from the traditional subjects of Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Drawing, Needlework and Home Economics and is now a highly regarded area of the academy's curriculum.

A Selection of DT Activities

In KS3, students are presented with a variety of challenging problems; they are encouraged to produce drawings and models to aid decision making and, in turn, manufacture using appropriate materials.  To create quality outcomes the pupils are taught a range of “traditional” skills as well as applying new technologies.

A Textiles lesson

In KS4 students consolidate previous design and making skills and have the opportunity to specialise in certain areas leading to GCSE examination.

We currently offer:

  • Resistant materials
  • Food technology
  • Electronic products
  • Graphic products
  • Textiles technology
