ICT

The ICT Department is committed to preparing all students during their time at Pool Academy, for life after school by encouraging them to be creative, innovative and gain skills which will be easily adaptable for the work place.

A typical ICT lesson

Information Technology is an important element of the modern educational process. The school has a modern computer system comprising some 200 networked stations and their peripherals.  The structure of the computer network extends to cover the whole campus, ensuring that resources can be shared and accessed from all locations.

Three well-equipped  computer laboratories are available for use buy all departments with smaller labs included within the resources of the Science and Technology Departments. We recently commissioned a mobile Laptop classroom resource to support the Business & Enterprise status.

We introduce the National Certificate qualification to all year 9 students giving them the opportunity to gain one of two GCSEs at grade ā€œCā€ or higher during this year. All students therefore should gain a formal qualification , called Level 2 national Certificate (4 GCSEs) in ICT by the end of Year 11.

The qualification consists of 6 units in total equating to 4 GCSEs:

Distinction is equivalent to 4 grade A GCSE's

Merit is equivalent to 4 grade B GCSE's

Pass is equivalent to 4 grade C GCSE's

The 6 units are:

  • ICT in Business
  • Web-site design
  • Multimedia products
  • Desk Top Publishing
  • Spreadsheets
  • ICT Systems and User Needs

The assessment is 100% Coursework Portfolio and there are no exams, which encourages consistent hard work and good attendance. Each student has regular feedback about their progress on a lesson by lesson basis which allows self ownership and motivation.
