Pool Academy’s Head Geek has raised hundreds of pounds for charity already after announcing he is to run the London Marathon.
Phil Jones, school ITC Network Manager - aka Head Geek, aims to raise more than £2,000 for Crohn’s Colitis UK charity. He also wants to prove to students that anything is possible.
He has never run a marathon before and his determination to complete the challenge is already paying off thanks to many generous people donating to his cause.
He has already raised about £500 for the charity. He plans to hold fundraising events next year to boost his coffers.
Pool Academy school mascot, Buzz the Bear, will also be helping him collect donations as well as take part in the big event on April 22, 2018, with Mr Jones.
He said: “My fundraising is going alright. I have raised £500 so far and I am hoping to hold more fundraising events after Christmas.
“The training is going well. I had a slight knee problem but it is ok.”
He said the news of his plans to run the marathon is spreading and he is even getting stopped and congratulated by people when he goes to the supermarket.
Mr Jones was diagnosed 18 years ago with Crohn’s Disease but he doesn’t let that stop him.
He said: “Running a marathon is something I have always wanted to do. I want to show students that even if you suffer from a condition such as Crohn’s nothing can stop you from doing what you really want to do.”
He started training for the marathon in September and has just over four months left until he reaches the start line in London.
There is currently no cure for Crohn’s. About 300,000 people in the UK have conditions and more than half are diagnosed when young.
