Preparations are underway to organise a unique mock interview day for students at Pool Academy to help ready them for the real world.
Each year business representatives from across the county are invited into school to carry out interviews to show students what they are like in the real world.
On the day students are invited to wear smart clothing and the event is conducted as if it were for an actual job. They are asked questions about themselves and why they would be a good worker. Afterwards they are offered feedback. Some of the mock interviews have been so impressive that they have been offered Saturday jobs or future placements.
Teachers and governors are now working hard and contacting local businesses to get involved with the next event which is due to take place in February.
Sarah Newham, Parent Governor who leads on the Careers Agenda, said: “It is an absolutely fabulous event. Last year businesses were impressed by the efforts being invested to support students on their journey towards the world of work. Many businesses remarked on the calibre, confidence, presentation, good behaviour and positive attitude of students, concluding that they are a credit to the school.
“Businesses were enthused and keen to be involved and commended Pool Academy for preparing students for transition between school and beyond.
“I don't believe any other Cornish schools are preparing students to this level and the event has gone from strength to strength. It is a credit to the school.”
