Pool Academy male teachers are once again clean-shaven after a month of fundraising, hair-growing and spreading awareness about men’s health.
Dene Williams, Julian Hosking, Tom Ford and Mark Turner spent the whole of November growing their facial hair in support of Movember.
Now December has arrived they have counted up their sponsorship of more than £60 for charity. They also found growing moustaches gave them many opportunities to speak about men’s health issues.
Julian Hosking, from the PE department, said: “Movember has been all about raising awareness. The key thing is I have been able to mention it in class and in my tutor groups.
“It gave me an opportunity to talk about men’s health and cancer. It is sometimes a taboo subject that we don’t normally talk about and I have been able to sign post people to websites with more information.”
Mr Williams said he urged others to join him in growing his moustache to raise awareness of some of the causes of men dying too young.
He said: “I supported the Movember Foundation because they’re tackling some of the most significant health issues faced by men.”
