Students are celebrating after being handed £1,000 donation from Tesco towards the creation of a new fitness gym.
Pool Academy officials have been promised the cash from the supermarket’s Bags of Help scheme. The scheme invites shoppers to put blue tokens into their favoured cause’s collection slot. Pool Academy was named as one of the charities from September until the end of October this year.
The new fitness suite will include treadmills, rowing machines, cross trainers and other items.
Clive Bramley, Chair of Governors at Pool Academy, said: "We are so pleased to have been awarded £1,000 from Tesco through its Bags of Help scheme. I would like to say a big thank you to the community who helped us by placing their blue tokens in our collection box at the local Tesco supermarkets."
Emily Cromey, Head of Faculty for PE, Art, Music and Drama, said: “I am really pleased to hear we are to receive funding for the fitness suite. It is a very generous amount. I would like to say a big thank you to Tesco and the community.”
The fitness suite has also handed £10,000 of funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
It is believed a fitness suite will help improve the health of staff and students as well as improve PE provisions at Pool Academy when it is open.
