Pool Academy’s secret daredevil plans to take to the skies again to raise much needed cash for charity.
By day Steph York is a PA to the leadership team at the school and is often seen in the main reception office or working at staff meetings. But in her free time she is a self-confessed adrenalin junkie.
She has been seen speeding along a zip wire as well as abseiling off a cliff. Her latest adventure is now planned for August 26 - jumping out of a plane flying above Perranporth airfield.
The reason for her latest skydive is to try and raise as much money as possible for the charity Cornwall Air Ambulance.
She said: “I am a daredevil and an adrenalin junkie. I have done two sky dives in the past and I have always wanted to do another one.
“Sky diving gives you an amazing feeling. You don’t realise it but you are going upside down and you can travel up to 170 miles per hour.
“After you jump it is free fall for a while and then a parachute opens. The free fall is amazing and you don’t realise how fast you are going. Sometimes you are allowed to control the parachute.
“I want to raise £400 for Cornwall Air Ambulance. I am paying for the jump myself so anything I do raise will go straight to the charity. I may also bake some cakes to sell for the cause too.
“Cornwall Air Ambulance is a worthy charity. It is very important.”
Mrs York will arrive at Cornwall Parachute Club, in Perranporth Airfield, at 8am ready for the sky dive. If weather conditions are right she will be given some training before leaving the ground.
She hopes the sponsored skydive will help the charity’s mission to buy a new helicopter.
She said: “I have been fortunate enough not to require the services so far but as we live in this amazing county we all know how much this is needed and what an incredible job they do.
“At some point we could all know someone who has benefited from this fantastic charity.”
