A Pool Academy student was asked to play for Plymouth Argyle Under 14s team – a year above his age group.
Zak Baker, Year 8, is a contracted Plymouth Argyle player for the Under 13’s team but was recently recruited to help out the Under 14s team.
He was asked to play up a year and be the reserve Goalkeeper for their Derby game.
He took part in the pre-match training on the first team pitch and again at half time.
In the end he was not needed but he said he enjoyed being able to sit through the contested final which finished with Plymouth winning 3-2.
At the end of the game they were all presented with the trophy and celebrated in the first team changing room.
Zak said: “It was a great experience. Even though I didn't get on it was amazing. I was able to warm up on the pitch. Having the opportunity to play on the pitch at Home Park was brilliant.”
Zak said he loves playing football and has done since he was three years old.
He said: “I have been playing with Plymouth Argyle under 13 team for a year where I have been playing in goal.”
He said he now plans to travel to Bristol this weekend to play in a match against Bristol City Under 13s.
