Two TV news cameras and a radio station’s reporter arrived at Pool Academy to help boost interest around a new girls’ football centre.

BBC Spotlight, ITV and Heart FM arrived on Friday, July 6, to see primary children playing a tournament to celebrate the launch of Pool Academy and Plymouth Argyle Football Club’ partnership and Cornwall’s first New Girls Player Development Centre.

They filmed the children playing their matches and interviewed girls about football ahead of England’s recent World Cup match, which was held the next day.

News about the centre was broadcast on the Spotlight evening news on BBC and ITV’s local evening news showed the girls’ interviews.

Mark Fuller, from Pool Academy, organised the football event.

He said: “The launch tournament was great and everyone was smiling after having such a good day.

“Hopefully the publicity around the day can really excite young female footballers to take part and potentially join our girls Long term player development centre that is held here at Pool Academy on Fridays from 5pm until 6pm.”
