The new Head of Year 9 in September will be Sophie Stephens.
Sophie has worked at Pool Academy for three and a half years as Head of Languages. In the past she held the same role at Cape Cornwall School.
Out of all the languages she teaches she particularly enjoys French. She feels it is a multi-skilled subject which encourages students’ confidence and as well as develops an awareness of global issues.
She said: “I am looking forward to the new role. I have always considered myself a pastoral person. I think Year 9 is a really important year. I am looking forward to enabling the students starting on their GCSE journey. I already know a lot of year 8 and I am very excited about taking them through to Year 9 and empowering them for the changes in Year 9.”
Miss Meakin said: “I am very excited about Sophie’s appointment to be Head of Year 9. She has always had a really positive approach with students, opening their eyes to the possibilities for the future, both locally and across the globe.
"Her role next year will focus on 2 key areas. These will be ensuring the Year 9 students start their GCSE courses in the very best fashion, along with supporting Year 8 children to make the best option choices for their future.
"I have every confidence Sophie will excel in both areas of her role and I have no doubt that Year 8 and Year 9 students will all benefit significantly from her enthusiasm, determination and positivity.”
