Matthew Brown has started at Pool Academy this term as a Geography teacher.
He grew up in Leicester and moved to Leeds where he graduated in Geography at the University of Leeds in 1995.
After doing a number of jobs, including working in a bank, he started studying for his PGCE at Leicester University.
Being a teacher has been a lifelong ambition for him.
He said: “I worked for six years at a school in Leicestershire before moving to London where I worked in one of the first academies for 10 years.
“I moved to Cornwall last summer where I’ve been doing supply teaching at various schools in the county for the last year.
“I was so pleased when I heard I had been selected to be the geography teacher at Pool Academy.
“The students and the staff seem very friendly and it really feels like a community.
“I can’t wait to get started and help everyone unlock their potential.
“I’m also really looking forward to working with my new Year 7 tutor group.”
Miss Meakin, Pool Academy Principal, said: “The students are very lucky to have such an experienced, passionate and exciting new geography teacher. Matthew’s determination to support every individual is obvious from the moment that you meet him and I know he’ll be a firm favourite with the students. I look forward to hearing about the Geography department’s adventures.”
