Pool Academy’s Year 11 football team’s ‘immense maturity’ and strength has seen them win the West Cornwall Championships.
The boys will now go on to the county finals to battle against other top Cornwall school teams to win county cup later this week.
The semi-finals took place last week against Helston at 3.15pm on Cornwall College’s football pitch and won the penalty shootout with a score of 4-3.
Mark Fuller, from Pool Academy, said he was proud of the team’s maturity which helped them to win the game.
He said: “The boys showed an immense maturity throughout a very tense 60 minutes drawing normal time 3-3. After no goals were scored in extra time the tie went to penalties. The boys, once again staying composed, won the penalty shootout 4-3.
“If they win the next game then they will be county champions.
“The mentality of the boys during the semi-finals was amazing. They were 3-2 down with seven minutes to go. The boys just performed well. Mentally they just had it.
“The biggest thing for them was that they knew they had lost on penalties to the same team last year.
“The mental strength from the boys was fantastic.
“They were one nil down after four minutes into the game but they didn’t give up.
“They are one of the best group of boys I have coached in my life.”
