Maths and Computing
Mathematics Vision Statement
Maths is a cornerstone for our future and we believe that everybody counts.
Our goal is to provide mathematics instruction that will enthuse and encourage students to become accurate, efficient mathematicians and flexible problem solvers. We can no longer predict and plan for the problems that these students will need to solve in the future. Therefore, we must make sure that our students have the core knowledge, and the skills to apply that core knowledge, to a variety of situations that are known and unknown to us and them at this time.
A mathematical problem may be a hands-on exploration of a mathematical concept, a multi-step task, shorter problems with a single answer, or looking for patterns and/or repeated reasoning in discussions of arithmetic strategies. Students must have the chance to struggle with meaningful problems, discuss possible solutions with their peers and create mathematical arguments. During these problem-solving opportunities, students should demonstrate their ability to:
- Attend to problems and persevere in solving them.
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
- Model with mathematics.
- Use appropriate tools strategically.
- Attend to precision.
- Look for and make use of structure.
- Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Computer Studies Vision Statement
In computer studies we plan and deliver lessons and content that is designed to prepare our learners for a technologically-reliant world in which they can be responsible, creative and successful. Learners will develop resilience, digital literacy and computational thinking skills, so they can make informed choices about their use of technology throughout the rest of their lives.
Creative iMedia Vision Statement
Creative iMedia embeds an expectation of excellence across students’ learning by inspiring students in the development of vocational creative media skills. It aims to encourage creative thinking in our students and develops a sense of individuality and creativity by exploring media industries such as digital print production. We want our students to be able to identify what makes a good media product and what keeps an audience engaged. We want students to be bold and to be able to interpret and produce their own ideas so they are able to communicate to an audience.
