Budding scientists have been invited to attend an event to hear Britain’s top experts, including child of our time’s Professor Robert Winston, give lectures.
About 50 students from Pool Academy have been given the chance to go to Bristol for Science Live! conference in January.
They will get to learn from top experts including Professor Steve Jones, a leading research geneticist, medical doctor Professor Robert Winston, space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock and Professor Andrea Sella who will give a lecture on chemistry.
Jack Jones, Science teacher at Pool Academy, said: “We are all looking forward to going.
“It is an exciting opportunity to meet such huge names in science.
“It is really going to be amazing and will be inspirational to the students.
“Some of the students are already so excited about the trip that they have been researching into the professors lecturing.
“Science Live will inevitably enrich students’ scientific education, raise aspirations and raise the profile of STEM in our school and the wider community.”
Mr Jones said it is a rare opportunity for students to meet the scientists and many may recognise Professor Robert Winston from the BBC television program Child of Our Time. He will be speaking about bioethics.
It is hoped Science Live! Will help improve Science GCSE results and inspire them with a bigger enthusiasm for the subject
The event takes place on January 28 and 29th from 10.45am until 3pm. It is hoped the students will also be able to visit We the Curious, previously known as @Bristol Science Centre, during their time away.
Mr Jones said: “There are 50 places available for triple science students in year 10 and year 9.”
