Community urged to take part in a fundraising walk, jog, skip event

Pool Academy is hosting a walk, jog, skip event to help raise funds and awareness for Asthma UK.

Staff, students and members of the public are being urged to take part throughout the week this week.

Children at the school will be participating during lessons but there will also be a special event for adults too on Thursday, December 14th, from 3.45pm.

It costs £1 to enter and will take place on the top school field. Everyone taking part will also be given a raffle ticket.  A wide range of prizes have been donated by the community and local business including an office chair, footballs and meals out.

The event is being organised by Alistair Durant the Head of PE at Pool Academy.

He said: “We would like all students to walk, jog, or skip a mile for this very worthwhile cause.

“We are doing an inter-house event to try to raise awareness and money for the charity.

“People are encouraged to complete a mile around the top school field during lessons.

“There will also be a raffle with some really good prizes including day passes to local theme parks, family swim passes, netballs and bottles of wine for adults.”

Any member of the public wanting to take part should meet in the school’s main reception before the start.

Mr Durant added: “We are looking forward to seeing as many students, staff and members of the public as possible taking part in this important fundraising event.”

Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties.

It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood although it can also appear for the first time in adults.

There is currently no cure for asthma but there are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control.
