Charitable student praised

A charitable student from Pool Academy has been praised after helping to collect much-needed funds on Poppy day.

Jack Broughal, 11EJB, helped launch the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2017 with his grandparents, who are honorary Poppy Coordinators for Helston and the surrounding area.

The appeal is close to his family's heart as his father has served in the Navy for 22 years and over the last three years his grandparents have helped to raise more than £72,000 for the cause.

Jack’s mother Tracy Broughal said: “Jack has done door to door collecting, sold raffle tickets and met local dignitaries including the captain of RNAS Culdrose.

“He was polite, organised and empathetic to older members of our local community who had stories to tell. They were very impressed in the ‘fine young man’.

“Jack did an amazing job and we are both very proud of him.”

Pool Academy teacher Roxani Gekas said: “Well done Jack.”

She gave him 20 achievement points for his efforts.

Claire Meakin, Pool Academy Principal, said: “It is incredible to hear how charitable Jack has been and I congratulate him on a wonderful achievement.”
