Pool Academy has been invited to STEM Inspirational Awards due to take place at the House of Lords.
Jack Jones, Science teacher, received the invite which informed him his Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths club had been shortlisted for the Outstanding Award.
The event is set to go ahead on November 1 from 12.15pm until 2.30pm. Mr Jones hopes to bring four students with him.
Pool Academy will also be given a display table at the event to show off the work STEM club members have done in their sessions.
Mr Jones said: “It is fantastic for the continuous hard work of both students and staff to be recognised.
“We are really looking forward to visiting the House of Lords and celebrating this momentous occasion with people who are as equally enthused about STEM.”
Clive Bramley, Chair of Pool Academy Governors, said: "It is wonderful to hear that the STEM group has been shortlisted for the award.
"We have an exceptional Science provision at Pool Academy offering our students the best education.
"I am so proud of the achievements of both the students and staff at the academy."
At the moment members of the Pool Academy STEM club are building a car which they hope to race in events all around the country.
Mr Jones wrote part of the STEM Clubs Best Practice Handbook which is a nationally published document. It can guide can be found at www.stem.org.uk/stem-clubs/support.
This work drew attention to the school’s STEM group and Mr Jones was recommended to enter into the awards.
An email to Mr Jones read: “Congratulations, you have been shortlisted for a STEM Inspiration Award in the following category: Outstanding STEM Club.”
