Former student and qualified doctor to return to Pool Academy
A former student and qualified doctor will be returning to Pool Academy to help inspire the next generation.
Cara Swain attended the school from September 2000 until July 2005 before attending Bristol Medical School and becoming a qualified doctor in 2012.
While at university Cara chose to join the Royal Navy and after graduation she travelled the world on various ships providing medical support to military operations.
She is currently a trainee surgeon at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, holding the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander.
She said: “My aim for returning to Pool Academy is to encourage young people to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be.
“I firmly believe that with hard work and determination anything is possible. Your background should not limit what you can achieve. The only limit is what you allow yourself to believe you are capable of. “
Claire Meakin, Pool Academy Principle said: “We are incredibly excited to welcome Cara back to Pool Academy. It is always wonderful to hear about our former students’ achievements. I absolutely believe she will be a great inspiration to all our students when she comes to visit next term.”
