Student named ‘fastest woman in Cornwall’ for 200m swim

A Pool Academy swimmer has been named ‘fastest woman swimmer in Cornwall’ after taking part in a County Swimming finals.

Amelia, in Year 8, was given the title after swimming the 200 metre breast stroke in 2 minutes and 48 seconds and recording a new County record. She also won eight other gold medals in numerous races which took place in Penzance on Saturday and Bodmin on Sunday.

Amelia said: “I got 21 medals over the weekend, nine Golds in my age group and the others were under 15 medals. I also set four new county records in Breaststroke.”

Amelia is now focusing in training so she can do well in the Regionals which will take place in Millfield and Hengrove in Bristol.

She received a shower of praise on the school’s facebook recently which she found very encouraging.

She said: “It was really nice to see all the lovely comments on the Pool Academy Facebook. Thank you.”

Amelia trains nearly every day, mainly at Carn Brea’s swimming pool, and even on some Mondays before school.
