Plymouth Argyle mascot visits Pool Academy

There were selfies galore when Plymouth Argyle’s mascot visited Pool Academy’s open evening for the second year in the row.

Pilgrim Pete is more likely to be spotted cheering on professional football players up in Devon, or featuring alongside Blazin’ Squad on Channel Four’s The Last Leg, than venturing down into Cornwall.  But after enjoying a cream tea, both ways at Pool Academy’s open evening last year, he wanted to come back for more fun this year.

The secondary school held its annual event recently to showcase its subject departments with many hands-on activities for attendees.

One of the highlights of the night was when Pilgrim Pete appeared ready to pose for the camera. Tia Mae, who is a local footballer from Illogan Dragons and recent runner up of the National Futsal Cup, was also pictured by his side.

Tia said: “I thought Pilgrim Pete was really friendly and I was really happy to have a photograph with him.”

Mark Fuller, from Pool Academy, said: “Pilgrim Pete was visiting Pool Academy’s open evening for the second year in a row.

“He was thoroughly impressed with the schools open evening and will hopefully be returning to Pool Academy soon.”

Pool Academy’s Open Evening saw members of the community arriving to take part in a number of activities including baking, science experiments, drama improvisation and maths challenges.

Claire Meakin, Pool Academy Principal, said: “It was lovely to be able to welcome Pilgrim Pete back again this year as well as a lot of other smiling faces from the community.”
