New Design and Technology teacher full of energy

Pool Academy staff are welcoming a new, energetic teacher to the Design and Technology department.

Kate Doran is starting this term and is looking forward to meeting students and her new tutor group.

She has been teaching for 10 years after training locally. Being Cornish she is happy to be able to do what she loves in her home county.

Kate has previously worked at Camborne Science and International Academy in Design and Technology and Oak Tree School, in Threemilestone.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to working at Pool Academy and getting to know the students.

“I love seeing the young people grow and develop over years and seeing their skills develop and watching dreams become reality.

“I chose to be a teacher because I wanted to find a way to share my knowledge and experience to help students develop and grow.”

Outside of school she has her own horses and likes to promote a healthy lifestyle by cycling to work.

She said: “Now I cycle most days in the week and have competed in Triathlons, once coming third in my age group at the super sprint at Blenheim Palace and first in my age group in the super sprint at London Triathlon.

“I want to be an inspiration to the students and show them anything is possible.”

Kate previously worked with those with Special Educational Needs and believes this has given her a great understanding about student wellbeing.

Before she was a teacher she worked designing pages for the West Briton and wavelength magazine.
