Year 11 Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to update you with the next steps for Year 11s going into the New Year.  All students received a paper copy of their report this week. If you would like another copy, please email Mr Jones (

Recent Events:

Firstly, a massive well done to all the students with the completion of their Mock exams. Students have all received their mock results and have started going through their papers in lessons with their teachers to identify their successes and are targeting the questions they need to work on.

Year 11 Parents’ Evening was superbly attended and we hope that parents found the opportunity to speak to the teachers positive and insightful. Please, if you were unable to get an appointment with any members of staff, ring or email the teacher and they will be happy to discuss the progress of your child.

We are now in full flow of the after school revision sessions for Year 11. There is something on every evening from 3-4pm and every subject is holding specific sessions on at least one day each week. We have recently texted parents and emailed students a running timetable of the sessions available and you can find this schedule on Facebook and on the school website. Please continue the wonderful encouragement of your child to keep attending after Christmas as these sessions will continue now up until exams and coursework deadlines. We also hope to offer some more breakfast revision sessions in the New Year so please listen out for information from our Heads of Faculties as to when they will begin.

Faculties have also been working hard to buy in and distribute revision guides for their subject. Please ask your child to hand any monies into the main reception, inform their teacher and their guides will be ready for collection. Please contact the Head of Faculty if you have any queries.

We look forward to starting our project with ‘Keys4life’ in January who are going to work with a large number of our Year 11 for an hour a week for blocks of 6 weeks offering workshops on Health, Sleep, Anxiety and Stress. Letters will be sent to students who have been invited for the first round this week with more information. This project really is a fantastic opportunity for your son or daughter to focus on their health, happiness and wellbeing leading up to their exams.

Also, many members of Year 11 have been given a mentor as a first contact of support at the Academy who will check in with your son or daughter as often as required to offer any extra support or intervention needed. Their role is to be someone who will just listen to our students and help to reassure and solve any worries or concerns. If your child has not been designated a member of staff and would like one, please email me and I will sort someone to support them in the New Year.

Next Steps:

There are still college open days happening next year so it is definitely worth considering if you want to take your son or daughter along to one to ensure they apply to the perfect courses and place for them. The next Truro College Open evening is Thursday 10th January 5-8pm and Penwith College is Thursday 7th February 5-8pm.

The students will be sitting a final set of core subject mocks in February. Please encourage your child to complete any revision or homework tasks set over the Christmas break as teachers will be ensuring that this helps to prepare them for their final Mocks and GCSE exams.  A summary document for students is available here:  (They may need to sign in!)

Prom/Yearbooks and Hoodies:

The Yearbook committee will be meeting in January to start producing these with the students so please make sure that your child has emailed me if they are interested in being a part of documenting their wonderful memories at Pool. Miss Conway-Baker will continue to work with the Prom committee in the New Year to get the exciting preparations for July put in place also.

Finally, a massive thank-you to you all for your support with your son and daughter and with the Academy. We really do have high hopes for their exam results next year and please congratulate them on their wonderful hard work so far.

Please do not hesitate to email me or contact me if you have any questions or queries.

I hope you have a magical Christmas!

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Jodie Phillips
