Monthly Letter- April 2019

30th April 2019

Dear Parents and Carers

With over 2 weeks off, April has absolutely flown by but there’s still been so much to celebrate.  Our students continue to impress us with their dedication to their studies, their huge range of extra-curricular activities and their support for others.

Last week we held interviews for a Vice Principal role and I am delighted to inform you that we appointed Mr Nick Ward.  Nick has significant senior leadership experience across a number of schools and will be working with staff, students and yourselves next year to secure the very best outcomes for every individual.  After a very positive 2 days of interviewing, we also have appointed Cris Heartford to the team. I have no doubt that many of you will have heard about his wonderful assembly and I know the staff and students are very excited about him joining us.

All subjects’ schemes of learning for the Summer term are available on the Pool Academy website - they can be found under Information for Parents then Topics. Students have been given a homework diary to record and check off their homework. Please can you check and sign the diary each week, form tutors will also be checking them. You can find a homework timetable on the school website under Information for Parents then Homework, so you will know which subjects will be setting homework each day.

Following our really successful Community Citizenship awards evening last summer, Mr Hamblin and the team, are busily collating this year’s active citizens. So many of our children are involved in community projects and really go that extra mile for others. However, many are very humble about their efforts, and do not like to ‘brag’ about what they are doing. This is where you come in. If your child, or another child you know who attends Pool Academy, is involved in anything that models working for others, and being a really ‘good citizen’ we need you to tell us all about it. Their names will then go forward for a chance to be publicly recognised for their efforts at our next awards evening.  Please email, or let me know, and I will forward your suggestions to Mr Hamblin.

We hope you have enjoyed getting to know some of our Year 7 students who we have showcased on our website. It has been fabulous to learn about their hobbies and interests including making fur animal suits, writing comic book and excelling in sport. You can read about it yourself at We try to update our website and Facebook page regularly so please keep following the fabulous stories about our exceptional students.

Last term was a busy one in the Performing Arts faculty, culminating in two brilliant showcases of talent and enthusiasm of our young people . The first, our Crofty Spring Concert, saw 150 Primary students from 9 primary schools in the area come together and perform. Each Choir sang a song and then we all joined together to perform A Million Dreams from The Great Escape, accompanied by our fantastic school band. It was a wonderful experience to see and hear so many students together. Each school had been working hard to practice and rehearse so it was truly wonderful to hear them sing in unison. We are so proud of the students and can’t wait to hear more from our Primary Choirs! In the evening of the same day, our students performed a fantastic evening of comedy, song, theatre and dance at our Night at the Musicals. Students from Pool showcased performances they have been working on, in some cases since September, and it really highlighted the high quality of performers we have in the Academy.

Last month we welcomed many of you to a meeting about a possible collaboration with Crofty Multi Academy Trust.  Since that meeting we have held further discussions with members from Crofty Trust, along with meeting a number of you for individual meetings.  Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and ideas with us. I am pleased to say that the relationship between ourselves and all Crofty primary schools is going from strength to strength and students both from the primary schools and Pool Academy are benefiting from opportunities to learn together.
