Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to update you with the next steps for Year 11s leading up to their GCSE exams.
Firstly, a massive well done to all the students with the completion of their Core Mock exams. Students have all received their mock results and have gone through their papers in lessons with their teachers to identify their successes and are targeting the questions they need to work on. Staff are proud that the progress from their last exams is definitely moving in the right direction.
Year 11 Parents’ Evening was superbly attended and we hope that parents found the opportunity to speak to the teachers positive and insightful. Please, if you were unable to get an appointment with any members of staff, ring or email the teacher and they will be happy to discuss the progress of your child.
The majority of Year 11 now have a brilliant routine of attending our after school and before school revision sessions. There is something on every evening from 3-4pm and every subject is holding specific sessions on at least one day each week. Every student has an individualised timetable with their targeted intervention sessions placed either in the school day or as a breakfast or after school session. These specialised revision boosters should be seen as compulsory as they really could make a difference to their final outcomes at Pool so please do continue the wonderful encouragement of your child to keep attending.
We have also had some brilliant Maths revision weekends with over half the year group spending their Saturday and Sunday in sunny Dorset climbing, abseiling and on the ‘Big Swing’ as well as completing a couple of Maths tasks thrown in there. We look forward to another core based revision weekend on the horizon at the end of April. Offering support for English, Maths and Science
We have just invited the company ‘Positively Mad’ to work with Year 11 with their ‘Exam Booster’ session last Thursday to help us with this final run up to exams. They offered some great top tips on how to retain information, memory tools and techniques to keep calm and focused in the exam build up. We hope that the students will feel energized, enthusiastic and far better prepared for their workload and their exams.
EASTER Revision Sessions:
Over the Easter Holidays the school is offering a number of revision days and sessions throughout the 2 weeks. There is something on offer every day except the weekends and the schedule has been sent out to students, staff and recently texted to parents and put on the school website and Facebook. It would definitely be beneficial for your child to attend the subjects they need to focus on.
There will also be the opportunity for students to come in on the Saturdays before their English exams in May and June with the English department for some final exam booster sessions and paper practise before the real thing.
Year 11 Leavers Day
The last school day for Year 11 will be Wednesday 12th June. Year 11 will have their normal school day from 8.30am till 12:10 pm and then a leavers’ assembly from 12:10 pm to 12:40 pm. Students then can go on study leave from 12:40 pm. Students will be expected to be in school uniform for this day. We do appreciate that in the past students have asked their friends and staff to sign a shirt as part of a last day tradition. We ask that if students want to do this they bring a spare shirt for signing: students must not have signatures on the shirts they are wearing, and all comments must be appropriate as our younger students will really look up to our Year 11s doing this.
While students are on study leave from the 12th June, teachers will still be available to see them and support them with their revision during their timetabled lessons. If students wish to come in after study leave commences, they must make sure they sign in at reception. They do not have to be in uniform for these revision sessions.
We would like to remind you that the Year 11 students must return their i-Pads to the school before they leave. We would like this to happen on Friday 14th June straight after the students have had their Science exam. We will need them to hand in their devices before they leave the school site that day.
Students must arrive in good time for their examinations – at least 15 minutes prior to the start of their examination. If it is a morning exam we will have the main hall open from 8:30am for breakfast and final exam tips before they enter the exam at 8:50am. Seating plans will always be in the student reception. It is important to remember that students have to come into school in their full uniform for examinations. Once the exam series is finished, any donations of uniform for our second hand uniform sale are very much welcomed.
If you require an additional copy of the exam timetable please email our exams officer, Tina Rowe: email@example.com
Prom/Yearbooks and Hoodies:
The Yearbook and Prom committee are well on the way of organising some memorable celebrations at Tregenna Castle on Wednesday the 3rd of July. The Prom committee held a very successful cake sale on Friday to raise funds towards their decorations and entertainment. We look forward to sending the students off in style that evening!
Finally, a massive thank-you to you all for your support with your son and daughter and with the Academy. We really do have high hopes for their exam results in August and please congratulate them on their wonderful hard work so far.
Please do not hesitate to email me or contact me if you have any questions or queries.
I hope you all have a wonder Easter!
