I hope you all have had a brilliant week- our students have certainly had another busy but successful one!
Thank you for your support during the launch of our Knowledge Organisers. We have received some really positive feedback from students and parents and we believe, with your support, students will see their progress across all subjects accelerated by doing small amounts of independent study regularly. You can download electronic copies of the knowledge organisers from our website here: https://www.poolacademy.co.uk/knowledge-organisers. On page 3 students can see recommendations for how they could practise remembering the content and we have uploaded a few photos from some students’ practice books which show how they are using their knowledge organiser. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
We are very excited that every student has now been issued with their new iPad to support their learning. A reminder that they are expected to bring it to school every day, fully charged. We would appreciate your support to help minimise damage by encouraging your child to care for it well. It is very important that the iPad always remains in its case, there is no reason why it should ever be removed. And when students put the iPad in their bag:
Ensure water bottles have a tight lid/seal so they don’t leak
Watch out for studded boots, these can easily crack the screen
Don’t cram it in very tightly
Try and place the iPad with its screen facing against a book, folder or something soft.
We loved welcoming Professor Mayne back to our school last week and we thought the piece on BBC Spotlight was brilliant. If you missed it or would like to see it again, you can view the clip here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LkFfUsTVxa3i8AODNURU7b6T5GmZCksA/view?usp=sharing (The segment is approximately 5 minutes in.)
The academic year has started really brightly and we are incredibly proud of the students’ achievements so far. We hope many of you are able to join us for this year’s first Friends of Pool Academy meeting on Tuesday 1st October at 6pm in the music block where we will review the first month in our newly transformed school. The senior leadership team will be available to answer any of your questions so we hope to see you there.
And we hope to see our Year 11 students and parents / carers on Wednesday 2nd October at 6pm for this year’s first GCSE Success Evening. During the session Mr Williams (Pastoral Leader) and Mr Ward (Vice Principal) will be explaining key strategies and timelines for supporting your child in these crucial next 10 months.
As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me: firstname.lastname@example.org
