Ben, a former Illogan Primary School student, took part in an annual competition in the Scilly Isles with members of his Redruth Judo Club recently.

He took part in two matches and went home with a medal for his efforts.

He has been practising the sport for two years now and is currently an orange belt with three green tags. He hopes to bump that up to a green belt early next year.

Ben said: “I went against two people, one of them was from my club. I enjoyed the competition as I had never been to it before. I was nervous and excited before I took part. I would love to do it again next time.”

He said when he gets his green belt he will be able to take on refereeing duties as well as compete more.

Ben added: “I like Judo because my friends are there and I enjoy the sport.”
